Australia has announced they will ban the domestic trade of ivory and rhino horn.
At the CITES CoP18 meeting, the Environment Minister of Australia announced the government's plan to implement the ban. She will meet with environment ministers in November to formally end the trade in all states around the country.
I am so relieved that this is happening, and that we are doing our part to help stop elephants from being poached to extinction due to the ivory trade, a trade that should never have existed. I really didn’t think this would happen for a while. I almost can’t believe it.
Thank you to the Government of Australia for making this change. @sussanleymp @scottmorrisonmp
Thank you again @billshortenmp and the @australianlabor party for showing your intentions and commitment on banning the trade.
Thanks to all the 263,758 supporters who signed my petition on Change to help get this issue noticed.
And thanks to everyone else who helped spread the word on how important elephants are- and that they truly are worth more alive.
For the ellies,
