History is the temple of injustice erected on the soil of righteousness.
The things that ever happened, weren’t always right. More than that, in most cases they were terribly wrong.
Sometimes it seems that history is woven by wars, people fighting for power and attention, fighting to forget their problems or to escape from them. In my opinion, no killing could ever be justified, and all that involves choosing destruction over cooperation is marked with the huge red letters saying WRONG! However, of the past 3,400 years, humans have been entirely at peace for 268 of them, or just 8 percent of recorded history. And how much wasn’t recoded? How much was hidden? And yet, there are stories of wars adorning the pages of history books with stories of science development and culture always occupying the last few pages, compressed beyond recognition.
Most of the countries nowadays are struggling to be seen as democracies, the word deriving from the Ancient Greek society. However, how fair those original democracies were? How fair ours are? The answer range is from pretty much not fair at all to mostly fair, but still...
The notion of “everyone gets what they deserve” is dubious, too. Did Byzantium deserve to be eradicated by Osman Empire? Did women deserve having little or no rights when they are in general no less intelligent or able as men? My guess is no.
However, we aren’t responsible for the crimes our ancestors made. But while we live, we can notice our wrongs and right them because nothing and nobody else will ever do that instead of us.
