LLUR table has been awarded with an AJAC award for “Product Design”!
The design of the LLUR table has its origin on a very specific need: a table for a pentagonal room. The geometry and dimensions of the space, but also the placement of doors, window, storage, etc., results in the necessary deformation of the table, which
loses the orthogonality and replaces vertices with a curved contour.
A second requirement was that the table top could fit into a plywood board of standard measures (2440x1220mm), lead to dividing it in three parts, to be cut with computer
numerical control. Once the ensemble is put together, each of the three pieces has a different wood grain, which creates an attractive texture effect. A fourth smaller piece, circle shaped, includes a removable part, which allows for wires and plugs to pass through. The table top stands on three screwed metallic legs.
Despite the very particular origin of its geometry, its irregularity makes it easily adaptable to different kinds of spaces and produces interesting relations with its surroundings that change according to its exact disposition. The amorphous shape
allows for different ways to be used, from one or two people working individually to a larger group of people seating for a meeting.
We have also received a second award for “Divulgation of Architecture” for our research platform @aseriesofrooms
The AJAC awards are given by the Association of Young Architects of Catalonia
