After camping in a tent with my three year old this weekend I was left falling asleep watching an episode of blippi before 8pm. I was exhausted to say the least. Between the pregnancy related insomnia, loud tent neighbors and my little guy waking up at least three times having to pee, sleep had escaped me over the weekend. Add in a 5 mile hike that required me to carry said toddler for an extended period of time (Thank goodness for the tula! Baby wearing for the win!) and I was drained.
Despite all of that, what did I do when bedtime rolled around and I managed to get him down for the count? I stayed up cleaning. Even while mopping the floors I was thinking to myself, “why are you doing this now?” And, “why is this your priority?” I knew my body needed rest. I just recently talked about how as moms we play the martyr card and how I’m going to make a conscious effort to stop that. But did I? No!
I will acknowledge that I felt better knowing that my house wasn’t a disaster going into my work week. But part of me also felt resentful of the fact that I was the one left doing this while the hubs was off enjoying a Timbers game. Surely I’m not the only one who can see how filthy the floor is? And this isn’t meant to be a rag on him because I say this with the utmost sincerity that I have a very helpful husband who truly strives to make me feel happy and supported.
So I guess I’m venting to all you mamas out there - you feel me right? And I’m wishing I can be transported back to the tranquility of the misty lake we got to escape to over the weekend. Who am I kidding? We had two toddlers and a baby in tow, it was anything by tranquil 🤣
